There are three artists by the name of Idlewild. 1.) A rock band from Scotland 2.) An Americana group from the United States 3.) A band called Idlewilde that has been playing in Connecticut since 1981. (http://www.idlewildeband.com/idlewilde.htm) 1.) Idlewild is a rock band which formed in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1995. The band currently comprises of Roddy Woomble (lead vocals), Rod Jones (guitar, backing vocals), Colin Newton (drums), Allan Stewart (guitar) and Gareth Russell (bass). The band has released six albums: "Hope is Important" (1998), "100 Broken Windows" (2000), "The Remote Part" (2002), "Warnings/Promises" (2005), "Make Another World" (2007) and "Post Electric Blues" (2009). Initially, Idlewild's sound was faster and more dissonant than many of their 1990s indie rock ... contemporaries. However, it developed over time from an edgy and angular sound (as heard in their early material—once described by the NME as "the sound of a flight of stairs falling down a flight of stairs") to a sweeping, melodic rock sound as displayed on The Remote Part and Warnings/Promises. While Idlewild's sound cannot be easily placed into a specific genre, they have clearly been influenced by the likes of: Gang of Four, Pavement, R.E.M., Blur and Fugazi. Part of Idlewild's early success can be attributed to their singles gaining heavy rotation on Steve Lamacq's Evening Session on BBC Radio 1. Alongside his all-round endorsement of the band, Lamacq often cites them as one of his favourite bands. In April 2010, vocalist Roddy Woomble announced that the band will enter a 'hiatus' following their current tour. However this was proved to be a misunderstanding of sorts with Woomble later going on to suggest that there would be further shows before the end of 2010 in support of the EMI re-release of "100 Broken Windows". 2.) An old-time American Traditional music trio playing music of Appalachia and the Old West. Dave Sharp on the Mountain Dulcimer and vocals. Carol Sharp plays Whistle and Tambourine, Mark Jardine on the Fiddle, and Pat Leary on Guitar. They released the album "Promontory" in 1993. 3.) A band called Idlewilde that has been playing in Connecticut since 1981. We like to play upbeat, good time music that people of all ages can relate to. We like to get people up on the dance floor and keep them there. The band’s sound features Texas blues-style lead guitar work, interwoven with Hammond B3 organ and hot Chicago-style blues harp. Idlewilde performs a mixture of classic blues, southern rock and original material. Their repertoire includes favourites from such artists as the Allman Brothers Band, Stevie Ray Vaughn , Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eric Clapton, ZZ Top, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, and BB King.
